Monday Science Fun Day: Crunch Labs Boomerang Car

Okay, peeps.

I think it says a lot about our summer—and, perhaps, life, in general—that I’m just now posting something that happened the first week of June, ha.

I kid you not: that very first week of the kiddos’ summer break, we kicked off our beloved, four (five?)-summers-running tradition of Monday Science Fun day!

With one of our happy Crunch Labs engineering challenges: The Boomerang Car!

These pics are so happy to me, because I remember the JOY of having the time and space to tackle something other than homework or to-dos or extra-curriculars for the first time in ages. The kiddos were giddy with that early summer freedom.

Chicklet was still in her walking cast for her ankle, Chica was still wearing her hair back (before she freed it for the summer), and Little Man was high on life over a simple, $7 clearance sweatshirt that fit so big, it made him feel like a teenager (a good thing in his mind):

I remember taking these pics, tackling this project, and feeling profoundly relieved and HAPPY that we’d made it to this point in the year. :)

Ahhhh, the hubris of the busyness that was still to come for the summer.

Still. Over The past seven or eight weeks, we’ve managed to tackle three of these Monday Science Fun Days (ironically, never on a Monday, ha) and I’m determined to now post them! Because if I don’t, it’s like they never really happened, amiright??? ;)

As a quick reminder: this is an amazing subscription service that we adore. We signed up last summer to receive 12 boxes that completed a summer “camp” session, and it’s taken a year to work our way through them, but I’LL TAKE IT.

We watch a video that teaches us an engineering principle in a really fun way, then tackle the build and get to experiment.

When we started to fall behind with completing our deliveries when school was back in session last Fall, I paused our subscription for a few months, but we’re close to being caught up, and doing our best to tackle a few more before summer ends!

I highly recommend these if you need a middle grade level challenge for kiddos who are interested in projects or science.

We spent so much time (driving Coda puppy crazy) by playing with our finished car and “driving” it forward and backward. Again…happy times and part of the very little “education” we’ve managed this summer.

But…we’re trying! And we’ll continue to try. :)

Happy Hump Day, peeps!

And, hopefully, more catch-up coming!!!
