If you would have told me prior to her launch that Chica would somehow adore cross country, I would have likely laughed in your face.
I mean…participated with a pleasant attitude? Sure. But actually, legitimately loved it enough to miss it when it wraps up and voluntarily sign up again in 8th grade? Never would have guessed it!
Yet, here we are!
My girl completed her season while I was unconscious on Saturday (very, very ill), and I couldn’t be prouder of her four-day-a-week—plus meets!—dedication and ability to do this really hard thing.
And, lemme tell ya: cross country in South Texas needs an asterisk beside it, because Chica not only participated, but powered through insane temps and terrain the whole, dang season.
Plus, one day a week with a 6:45 a.m. start time…
And early Saturday meets for the final month…
I’ve gotta give a special shout out to the hubby, who gladly shuttled Chica to her final three meets, with a smile on his face, while I prevented the younger two kiddos from being dragged out of bed way early on their one day to sleep in.
We had plans to all go together for the final meet, before I fell ill, and I really am soooo sad I missed it—plus, the celebratory breakfast, afterwards—but I’m happy to know I’ll have another chance next year. :)

This final pic I’m posting with faces because the coach already did (and I believe all kiddos signed a photo waiver). Such a cute shot of the girlies just before their final run.
Tomorrow, Chica turns in her jersey and celebrates with the great, co-ed group of kiddos who participated, and then it’s onward and upwards with…tennis! (Oye.)
More later, peeps, as I continue to catch up!
Over and out.
