You probably noticed that all was quiet on the western front of this here blog for days and days, and that’s because we were in CHILL mode.
I have a startlingly low number of pics on my phone from the last 10 days, on account of our rest, vegetate, spend-quality-time and repeat days! It was wonderful.
You know, to be honest, I’m always a bit antsy right after Christmas, feeling like we have this incredible chunk of time on our hands before the kiddos are back at school and that is almost disrespectful not to seize the chance and use that time! Go on an adventure!
And, yet…I think there’s something so classic and restorative about being so lazy and unstructured that we’re practically bored by the time the kiddos go back to school (I exaggerate, but, still). I feel like it’s a necessary downshift before getting back into the full swing of things and powering through the second half of each school year.
Plus, if we scheduled our time and left the casa (don’t get me wrong; we might do just that, some year, soon!), we wouldn’t have lived all of this:
Late bedtimes, late wake-ups, and lots of pajama-ed smiles…
The manic de-Christmas-ing of the house, followed by a massive wave of New Year Cleaning (even carpets, this time)…
Accidental (and purposeful) human and puppy naps…
Cooking (one last round of Thanksgiving-type food)…
Snuggling…
Baking (even when it looked way better than it tasted!)…
Football watching…
LEGO building…
More napping and snuggling…
Drawing (!)…
And even some back-in-action swim team…

I’ve share more posts in coming days to show our holiday doodling and one fun project we tackled. Woohoo!
But for now, I’ll leave you with my favorite, favorite holiday family memory: after Christmas, I randomly made the mandate that every other night, we would take our evening Coda walk together, as a whole family. There was mild whining at first, but eventually, it became such precious time together. One night, the hubby and Little Man even caught sight of a shooting star! It was just a lovely reminder of finding joy and quality time in the little things, and it’s something I hope we can keep up…at least a couple times a week.
Okay, more, soon, as we get back in the groove!
Happy January Monday, peeps!
Over and out.
