This past week or so has launched the official homestretch of the school year. (Woohoo! And, also, so scary.)
Now, obviously, the homestretch comes with a slew of final concerts, celebrations, awards ceremonies and general events that display the depth and breadth of all the kiddos have accomplished. But we try to give each one the credit that is due—no matter how busy the schedules!
Tonight, it was Little Man’s time to shine during one of my favorite events of the year: the annual GT showcase!
My dude is such a curious and meticulous learner, and the GT program has been the perfect accelerated outlet to feed his intellect and keep him challenged.
Along with four other students in his grade, he spends one of his school days each week in the GT classroom with the GT teacher—who I adore.
They power through so many coolio projects and books and methodologies that explore learning outside the box, and it’s so stinking fun to see some of their work showcased at the end of each year.
The event is held in the library, which is my favorite spot in the school, and it’s always a happy occasion to arrive, let my boy showcase the fruits of his labor, and connect with the other families within the program.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it a million times more: I’m so grateful for our school district and our particular elementary campus. My three kiddos are three excellent and very different learners, and they’ve all been encouraged and challenged and supported, year after year.
Okay. Now. Without further delay…some of Little Man’s work!
This one was so fun. A neuron made from candy! Twizzler pull n’ peels, gummy lifesavers and marshmallows, tehe:

I’m still in denial that Chicklet is almost siphoning off to middle school. The hubby made sure to pull her ponytail and pester her during one of her last evening visits as a student on campus. ;)

And, look! The hallway of pets!

It really was a lovely little outing to celebrate my boy and all of his hard work.

Little Man’s homeroom teacher was also there, tonight, and she shared some of the sweetest feedback, as well. A story about how Little Man helped some fellow students this week when they feel behind with their science fair project. She kept telling us how proud she is of the leader he is in the classroom, and we, of course, said things like: “This guy??? Our son??” Ha.
He might be ALL boy these days, but his playful side is balanced by some pretty outstanding focus when it’s time to buckle down for school work, and I’m so, so proud.
Speaking of which…his teacher also shared the late-breaking (and secret, for a couple more weeks!) news that Little Man slayed his qualification exam for something called HAM: Hyper Accelerated Math. So beginning next year he’ll be on a separate, advanced math track that will really challenge him, and considering he was anxious to do well on the exam, I can’t wait to share this news with him, as soon as we get the all clear. :)
The days are long, but the school years ZOOM by, peeps.
Every dang day from here to the last school day is jam packed with milestones to round out the year, and I can’t wait to keep celebrating my giant babies and their hard work.
More, soon, peeps!
Over and out.
