A sign of the times, for sure. And these are…SUMMER TIMES!
We’ve been powering through a lot of really fun things to kick off the first week of summer, and yesterday was a biggie:
Our first non field trip-related jaunt to the zoo in years.

It’s wild how it sometimes takes ages to slingshot back around to an activity we used to do with regularity, but it makes sense when you consider how the kiddos have aged, and how busy we are.

But when we were assembling our summer bucket list, Chicklet really wanted to make this one happen, so I decided that EARLY in the summer was going to be the best chance for temps below triple digits. And I also thought it might be our best chance for roping in some friends for the excursion, and…it worked!
One of Chica’s dearest friends is the daughter of one of my closest Mama friends, and when you throw us all together, plus the other siblings who all get along so well, it’s always a good time. :)
For years, now, we’ve been getting the gang of us together for fun hang times or excursions, and I was thrilled this one worked out. Strength in numbers is a thing, peeps.
We had a massive storm Tuesday night into Wednesday morning that cooled the temps to mid-80’s and that’s the best you’re ever going to get for zoo fun in South Texas at the start of summer.
These pics don’t really need explanation, it’s just a gaggle of happy kiddos for a hot but tolerable summer zoo day! Victory!

After the zoo fun, we went for a mid-afternoon lunch together, grabbed Coda girl from the play place, dropped off our friends…and then it was only about 30 minutes before we needed to leave for Chicklet’s evening swim team. Yikes! Long day.

But I decided it was also the perfect day to re-boot the family membership to take everyone to swim at Lifetime, and it was the perfect ending to a really long but happy day.
Not gonna lie, the body was a little tired when I woke this morning to take the kiddos to the dentist, but it’s wonderful to be tired from fun summer things instead of the usual school year grind, so…I’ll take it!
Next up for catch-up posts: our Summer Intentions! And if these dentist appointments keep taking so long, I might just be able to type it up, ha.
Happy Thursday, peeps!
Over and out.
