The last in our trifecta of fun from yesterday that included a walk to Starbucks, an American Flag Cake, and…watermelon trickery, courtesy of our favorite engineering online channel, woohoo!
(Please note the paused video on the TV screen in the background.)

We meant to do this last summer and just never got around to it. Mark Rober calls it the watermelon pill. A fun way to leave people confounded, ha.

Or leave people licking watermelons for funsies. ;)

You purchase two watermelons of like size, and remove the rind on one…

Then, once you’re down to only the red portion, you use a pretty rough (new) sponge to sand it smooth…

Meanwhile, you cleanly halve another watermelon and empty it out, just like carving a pumpkin…

Then, when you’re finished, you hid the “pill” watermelon inside the halved/emptied watermelon, and…voila!

It looks like you just crack it open and have watermelon perfection, free from the rind, inside. :)

We took a fun slow-mo video and it gave us a smile. It’s recommended for a pretty awesome summer picnic party trick, but for us, the accomplishment was the task itself.

I don’t think you can get more quintessentially summer than the colors of a watermelon. Perfection.

Happy Hump Day, peeps!
More manana.
