Another catch-up post, thank goodness! Featuring a small but MIGHTY event:
Back-to-school shopping with Chicklet to get her middle school ready!

(Please make note of the glorious dimple sighting, above!)
Honestly, I’ve been in a small state of denial over my beloved middleborn’s launch into 6th grade.

When I stop and take stock, despite my mental denial, we’ve actually been doing a solid job of getting Chicklet middle school ready in small—and big!—ways for months.

I know the next year will bring the most significant heap of growth and change for my girl, ever, and there will be so many amazing and bittersweet moments. There’s only so much you can do to prepare until the moment of middle school is upon you.

Honestly, I’ve been in a small state of denial over my beloved middleborn’s launch into 6th grade.
Obviously, I know it’s happening, and we’ve been talking about it for ages (since about halfway through 5th grade), but, still. It’s a whole thing. A major new chapter that I kind of can’t believe is happening.
If you know my girl at all, you know she is not a fan of shopping. Barely tolerates it, at best—and even then, it has to be targeted and limited. So I definitely pick my battles when I drag her anywhere, and if it can be purchased online, instead, that’s a major win, ha.
Honestly, I act as her personal shopper whenever possible, and consider it a massive victory when I come home with wins!
I had an excellent run of some tops/leggings/pajamas back in the springtime (even some jean shorts and two bathing suits!) and we’ve been riding that high ever since, ha.
Still, when my girl asked to go do a teeny bit (emphasis on teeny) of school shopping—mostly to focus on school supplies and a random body pillow she wanted for her bed (not a school necessity, per se, but solid sleep is important)—I decided to make it a special Mama/daughter event since it’s such a rare occasion. :)
We stocked her up on all the necessities like pens/highlighters/folders and it made her a little anxious to have to think about the impending launch of the school year, but she was also happy to feel prepared.
The fun bit came when we popped a few doors down and shopped for some middle school shoes. :)
I DIE that she came away as a Vans girl. Ugh. Be still my aching Mama heart. It hurts when they grow up! Once upon a time, it was rainbows and tie die and the more color the better, and now she’s classic black and white. But they look fan-freaking-tastic:

New (awesoemsauce) eyeglasses.
A perfect new backpack (some color, but not too much!).
Same with the lunchbox and water bottle.
Securing her clarinet for band—along with allllll the essential supplies.
Time to bond with her new cell phone that helps her stay connected with buddies.
Braces, with enough time to get accustomed to the vibe and feel.
Putting a hold on her swim team activities for August and September (that’s a whole other post), so she can get acclimated to the new curriculum demands without feeling overloaded.
Aaaaaaand, best of all, a feisty new hair length that suits her SO PERFECTLY:

But I also know she’s got this.
I can’t WAIT to see what this year will bring, and I’m praying so hard and sending out so many positive vibes for an amazing transition year for my girl!
Happy Thursday, peeps!
Over and out.
