In keeping with our zany, just-roll-with-the-busyness Summer, I’m sitting here in a medical building, waiting on Chica to be wheeled out from an oral surgery we definitely didn’t have on the Bingo card, just a week ago.
Life, amiright?
But that’s a story for tomorrow.
(Don’t worry; she’s fine and stable!)
For now, this is relevant because it gives me a forced moment to sit here in the waiting room and catch up on a post I meant to share 10 days ago!
Ironically, this post kind of fits with the overall theme of the past two months in our household, which has been: crazy, with a side dose of really trying to carve out special time together, whenever the heck we’re able to find it (which isn’t often!).
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, we’re having a bit of a movie-heavy Summer, which is kind of nice, amidst all the insanity.
There have been a handful of fun theatrical releases for us to see as a fam, a handful of adult releases for the hubby and I to catch on a Day Date, and…a handful of at-home gems that have been a bright spot of family snuggling amidst everyone going in opposite directions.
About two weeks ago, we had one of the at-home releases (the 4th in a series of Disney movies the kiddos have always lurved), and despite it falling at the end of Little Man’s insane week of Spurs Camps, I decided to make a whole event of it, because…when else can you whip up green Zombie themed popcorn in life??? ;)
This is the movie, and it’s such a fun series that involves (non-scary) Zombies, aliens, werewolves and vampires. So there was a lot to draw from, in terms of culinary creativity, ha.
The girlies happily whipped up the cupcakes (this was the day after Chicklet’s braces, so she was still holding her mouth so delicately, sweet thing):
Meanwhile, I worked on the Zombie and Alien popcorn, with some food coloring-tinted white chocolate. :)
By evening, we had a handful of hysterical things laid out in a cute little spread that made the kiddos smile—and definitely helped to set the vibe for some happy time together, after a really busy week.
Seeing the kiddos smiling and snapping their own pics to share with their friends was pretty darn cute. It made the effort totally worth it.
I’m so glad we took this time to watch as a family, because the next night, Chica was away from home having a bonus viewing round with some of her girlfriends who were equally excited to watch. And the the movie played on repeat in our household (and the musical songs were downloaded to play on repeat, too, ha) for days and days…
Until one of Chicklet’s friends came over and the kiddos finally had some time to watch this other gem of a movie, and now it has taken the top spot for viewing in the household:

I know what you’re thinking: Demon Hunters??? What??? Because I said the same thing. But after the kiddos watched and LOVED, we made a bonus family movie night out of it a few days ago, and it was SO GOOD!!! Like, so good that the hubby and I happily watched and enjoyed!

The music was amazing (it’s also been downloaded and played incessantly, ha), the storyline was wonderful (the “demons” represent the things we are ashamed of and hide from others; I LOVE a kids’ movie that teaches a greater mental health lesson), and it’s been nothing but happy, musical, hysterical vibes.
Truly, I feel like this Summer has been a lesson in just going with the flow and withstanding the onslaught (of schedules, of kiddos’ moods, of responsibilities) as best as possible. So, in retrospect, I’m especially glad for the times we’ve taken to sit a be together, even if it’s just for a short movie-watching spell of time.
Okay, peeps.
More, tomorrow (hopefully) with a Chica update.
Until then…Happy Hump Day!
Over and out.
