Needy Nuggets

Oh my heavens, I seriously do not remember it being quite this hard to get back in our groove, post-Christmas, in previous years.

I mean...holy pain.

To be fair, I’ve had a lot o’ random house projects and to-dos and annoying little bits that have taken up a lot of energy and time (thank heavens that round of yuck is finally coming to a close...for the most part).

BUT.

The kiddos have seriously been just really emotional and needy this past week, and we’re just doing our best to roll with it.

Poor Chicklet is not feeling 100%, either, and there are a ton o’ germs floating around the school—primarily, a stomach virus and the flu (NO, THANKYOUVERYMUCH), so we’re really keeping an eye on her, in case the extra-emotional state is a sign of oncoming sickness.

Last night, after a rough time putting her down to bed, complete with lots o’ tears, the hubby caved—just like I did one night last week—and let her sleep in our bed. And the adorable, emotional nugget went right to sleep and was zonked for the whole night.

I think it’s important to state for the record that it’s not been typical of our family to have a kiddo in bed. Only on sick occasions, to be honest. And all these years into parenting, and our kiddos still remain in their bedrooms for the most part in the morning—or at least congregate together in one room, once they’re all making noise and awake—until we give them the go-ahead to come downstairs.

I’m not gonna lie—it’s really awesome to still maintain that sort of containment. But it’s also awesome in another way, because it makes being downstairs in Mama and Daddy’s room a big, fun deal, that we totally exploited on New Year’s Eve.

Without much going on that evening, we hauled in the blow up mattress, and also brought one of the twin mattresses downstairs, and had a family sleepover that was such a major hit, the kiddos begged for another one last weekend—and we obliged on a great, stormy night.

It’s been a treat that doesn’t cause much angst, and it’s shocking to see how quickly they all settle in and go to sleep like normal, so I feel like this will be a new, regular thing for us.

So...yay for planned family sleepovers on weekend nights when all is well. And, booooo for poor, emotional kiddos who might not be feeling well and are trying to finagle their way into our bed, ha.

Either way—love our nuggets and I know we’ll get back to “normal” soon. (I hope, I hope, I hope).

Until then...over and out.
